Cold and the return trip: what to plan before leaving the train

What official sources and developer interviews say about cold, warmth and the Eden Engine, and why to plan the way back before leaving the train.

Official sources only, no build verified

Cold limits how long a crew can stay away from the train. The Steam description says blizzards impair sight and movement, and heat matters for survival. In a Gamescom interview, FakeFish founder Aku Jauhiainen describes a warmth bar that falls outdoors and health loss after it empties. He says the Eden Engine provides heat and power. Neither source establishes an exact duration, temperature threshold or fuel value.

One useful decision follows from those systems: choose an objective and a way back before leaving the train. The crew should know where it can return and who is watching the engine. This is editorial advice based on the published design, not a tested optimal route.

The developer mentions warmer clothes and certain foods as ways to soften the effects of cold. He also describes food as a source of combat benefits, rather than a confirmed daily requirement. Public material does not reliably establish clothing protection values, individual food effects or how they combine. Comparisons need a test tied to a build ID.
